Which is the best way to get to Oslo?

By plane

If this is your choice, welcome to the three airports surrounding Oslo

1. Oslo Gardermoen (OSL)

This airport is the biggest out of these three and about 45 km north-east of the city center.

How to get to the city?

Depending on what time of the day you arrive at OSL you can choose between

Flytoget - Airport express train

The one way ticket price is 180 kr for an adult and 90 kr for a student (your letter of admission is enough to verify that). After you landed, got your luggage and left the duty free shops you will see several signs that show you the way to the train station. Even with a lot of luggage you wont need more than 5 min ;-) This train leaves every 10 min during day time and takes about 20 min to the city center (Oslo S) from where you can take other public transportation to your student housing/ SIO/ university/ hotel /hostel.

SAS Flybussen

The prices for bus tickets are a bit tricky. You can either buy them when you enter the bus (160 kr) or for only 80 kr (student) if you pay it online before your journey. To find the bus stop is super easy as well. Just follow the sign and within 5 min you'll reach it, its just outside the door.

Flybussen departs every 20 minutes all days. Starting from the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel via the Oslo Bus Terminal, Clarion Royal Christiania Hotel, Helsfyr and Furuset. Duration approx. 40 min. - See more at: http://www.visitoslo.com/en/transport/transport-airport/oslo-gardermoen/...

Flybussen departs every 20 minutes all days. Starting from the Radisson Blu Scandinavia Hotel via the Oslo Bus Terminal. Within 55 min it will bring you to the bus terminal in Oslo, which is very close to the central station (Oslos S) from where you can take public transportation to get to university/ student housing / SIO/ hotel/ hostel.

NSB train

This train leaves not as often as the airport express train. The price is 90 kr for an adult and the train takes 23 min. However, if you already have a ruter card (for public transport in Oslo), you only have to pay an additional fee of 60 kr!

Taxi

To take a taxi/ cab in Oslo is super expensive (at least 700-1000 kr) so this is probably only reasonable if you come very late at night or very early in the morning. For departure times of trains/ busses please check their webpages by clicking the provided links.

By bus

In Norway travelling by bus is very common. If you come from within Europe, it might be worth it to have a look into the bigger bus companies and their offers. Big advantage of taking the bus is that you can bring more luggage and maybe even a bike (please ask the company for this as some have sepcial prices for this)!

By car

This is also rather to be considered if you come from within Europe. There are several ferries and a bridge you can take from Germany/ Danmark to Norway.

Kiel-Oslo

This ferry leaves Kiel, Germany every day at 2 pm and will reach Oslo the next day at 10 am. In total a 20 hour cruise with the possibillity to buy duty free.

Hirtshals - Larvik

This ferry brings you from the very northern part of Danmark to Larvik, Norway. From here it is an additional 1.5 hour drive to the city center of Oslo.
